    Pasty Dreamers. The Winner!

    Cast your mind back to September 2015! We started a serious UK wide search for the next big pasty recipe with our Pasty Dreamers competition. It was a giant shout out to all dreamers who have ever wanted to see their dream pasty in the crust! We promised a starring role for the winning pasty in all West Cornwall Pasty Co shops for our customers to enjoy AND to have the added prestige of being entered into the World Pasty Championships in Cornwall in March 2016.

    This is the first time West Cornwall Pasty Co have run the competition and have had a phenomenal response! Judges narrowed the wild, wacky and downright delicious entries with ideas brimming from an English Breakfast Pasty, Paella Pasty to a Chicken Korma Pasty and even taking inspiration from the Cornish ocean with Mackerel and Sardines. We narrowed things down to a shortlist of 4 with the help of an expert panel before plumping for our winner!

    The Winning Pasty is...

    The COMPTON PASTY created by Mr Malcolm Mant.
    Juicy pork and beef meatballs in a tomato salsa with red peppers, red onion, garlic and a touch of chorizo. Enriched with fresh mozzarella and Cornish Cheddar Cheeses and Trewithen’s Cornish cream, all delicately seasoned with oregano, marjoram, paprika and fennel with a mild chilli kick. Wrapped up in our multi-award winning flaky pastry with a trademark hand crimped crust of course!

    We caught up with our winning pasty creator Malcolm Mant on his inspiration for the Compton Pasty.

    'You can't beat a traditional! But this one comes close! I learnt how to make pasties from my Great Granny Jessie, who was born and raised (like myself) in Plymouth - which is as close to Cornish as you can get, without being Cornish. She was making pasties for us until she died at 95 years of age. I still make them as an occasional special in my London pub, The Compton Arms, sticking true to the basics of the recipe she taught me at the age of 15.'

    Malcolm on finding out he's won...

    'Having entered for my own interests and a bit of fun, it was a rather pleasant surprise to find out I'd actually won the thing!  Really looking forward to the trip back to the West Country in March - and really rather overwhelmed to find my creation entered into the World Pasty Championship!'

    Malcolm will be joining the West Cornwall Pasty Co team at the Eden Project in Cornwall for the heats and the grand final of the World Pasty Championships and will be living it up at the rather beautiful Carlyon Bay Hotel.
